TRJ #3- Soundtrack- For Allie, Noah, and Lon

KEREN ANN- Not Going Anywhere (Allie)

This is why I always wonder
I'm a pond full of regrets
I always try to not remember rather than forget

This is why I always whisper
When vagabonds are passing by
I tend to keep myself away from their goodbyes

Tide will rise and fall along the bay
and I'm not going anywhere
I'm not going anywhere
People come and go and walk away
but I'm not going anywhereI
'm not going anywhere

This is why I always whisper
I'm a river with a spell
I like to hear but not to listen,
I like to say but not to tell

This is why I always wonder
There's nothing new under the sun
I won't go anywhere so give my love to everyone

Tide will rise and fall along the bay
and I'm not going anywhere
I'm not going anywhere
People come and go and walk away
but I'm not going anywhere
I'm not going anywhere

- This song shows the feeling that one person will never leave the lover, and I think that fits for Allie because although she knew she got disease, she didn’t leave Noah like other patients. She knew that if she leaves, Noah will feel lonely so she did not say so. The part where ‘I won’t go anywhere so give my love to everyone’ was just fitting to Allie in last part of the book.

Yesterday- Beetles (Lon)

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away,
Now it looks as though they're here to stay,
Oh I believe in yesterday.
Suddenly, I'm not half to man I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me.
Oh yesterday came suddenly.
Why she had to go?
I don't know she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday.
Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play,
Now I need a place to hide away,
Oh I believe in yesterday.

-This song shows the loneliness and regret of not loving the past lover, who leaved. Although Lon did not seize Allie when she was leaving, I think that Lon would do some regrets because he also loved Allie. The part where it says ‘now I long for yesterday’ fits with Lon in my opinion.

Tommy Page- A shoulder to cry on (Noah)

Life is full of olts of up and downs
but the distance feels further
when it's headed for the ground
and there's nothing more painful
than to let your feeling's take
you down

it's so hard to know
the way you feel inside
when there's many thoughts
and feelings that you hide
but you might feel better
if you let me walk with you
by your side

and when you need
a shoulder to cry on
when you need a friend to rely on
and the whole world is gone
you won't be alone
I'll be there
I'll be your shoulder to cry on
I'll be there
I'll be your friend to rely on
when the whole world's gone
you won't be alone cause I'll be ther
eall of the times
when everything is wrong
and you're feeling like
there's no use going on
you can't give it up
I'll help you work it out
and carry on
side by side
with you till the end
I'll always be the one
to firmly hold your hard
no matter what is said or done
our love will always continue on
everyone needs a shoulder to cry on
everyone needs a friend to rely on
when the whole world is gone, you won't be alone
cause I'll be there
I'll be your shoulder to cry on
I'll be there
I'll be your friend to rely on
when the whole world is gone,
you won't be alone
cause I'll be there
you'll have my shoulder to cry on
I'll be there
I'll be the one to rely on
when the whole world is gone,
you won't be alone cause I'll be there
and when the whole world's gone
you'll always have my shoulder to cry on

-This song shows the great love from one person to their lovers. In this novel, I think Noah showed deep and large love toward Allie. I thought the part ‘when the whole world is gone, you won’t be alone’ fits very much to Noah. It is because he loves and cares Allie for so long time, even if she is in large disease, which is Alzheimer. I thought this song shows both love and strong will of saying not to leave and protect one person for long time. Therefore, I chose this song, Tommy Page’s ‘A shoulder to cry on’ for Noah.

Daray!
Did you know that those are some of my favorite songs? I was reading through and kept on having agreements!:) Actually, I saw the movie "Notebook" and it was really touching and sad. I totally agreed about the opinion you made about how the songs suit the story.

Nicely done. Isn't it cool to imagine a book and play the soundtrack in your head when you do? Sometimes I will read with music playing in the background and I find that the songs fit the book perfectly!
